Life as a Widower

A young widowed father opening up about living with loss

five tomorrow

Our beautiful boy turns five tomorrow and I just wanted to wish him a very happy birthday.Β What a pleasure it is to be his father.

Happy birthday, Jackson. I love you and all the crazy things you do and say. I couldn’t ask for a more amazing son.

Happy Birthday Jackson. What a beautiful and inspiring boy you are, with a great daddy. If I’d known it was your birthday, I’d have made you one of my special chocolate cakes and had it rushed over to you. But I’ve made a note of the date, and maybe next year. I used to bake cakes professionally and everyone who has had my special chocolate decadence cake says it’s the best choccy cake they’ve ever tasted. I shall be making one for my own son’s birthday on November 6.

Ben,I have been following your story for the past couple years. I’ve cried, laughed and simply been in awe. I came across your blog, and then your memoir after hearing you on R4. `it was at the same time my mother died unexpectedly and suddenly. It helped me a lot, even though the circumstances were very different. But death and grief are brutal – whatever the age and circumstance. Your story was the catalyst for me to start my own blog about my feelings about the sudden loss of my beloved mum, and then to write a memoir. My book is still awaiting my final edit before sending it out into the world. I’ve closed my Blog because it was provoking difficulties with some of my siblings, but I may now bring it back to life before I publish the Memoir.

Thank you both for sharing your courage, emotions and honesty.
